Christian Calculus

If we’re being honest most of our ministry can be overly calculated and formulaic. Western Christianity seems to be communicating that crunching numbers and connecting with the “right” people alone equates to vibrant and effective ministry. However, we cannot out-teach culture or battle spirits with a “seven easy steps to be ing a person” sermon series.

The Testimony of the Church throughout history has been one of miracles and movements launched from the most unlikely places from the most unlikely of people. We need to leave room for the Holy Spirit to shock us. This is Christianity not calculus.

Be efficient, be educated, be energetic, be equipped, but be careful that the power of preparation doesn’t become the poison of pride.

It’s not that we shouldn’t seek best practices or forsake excellence, but when Jesus mentioned His “Father’s Business”, He wasn’t referring to building a corporate empire, He was declaring the establishment of an eternal Kingdom. Faith is our currency and we should spend it frequently.
